Instructor's Manual to accompany Essentials of Molecular Biology

The Instructor's Manual is designed to help instructors use Essentials of Molecular Biology as the foundation for a course in Molecular Biology. The text reviews the structure of macromolecules (Part I), explains the function and regulation of nucleic acids and proteins (Parts II and III), and ends with the experimental manipulation of macromolecules (Part IV). The design mirrors the "layering approach" to building knowledge that the main textbook uses. That is, information, concepts, and ideas are built up in a stages resulting in a complex and sophisticated body of knowledge.

Introductory Comments, Chapters 1 through 16, three skeleton exams, a comprehensive final skeleton exam, and Acknowledgements for the Instructor's Manual are provided in a zip file. Each chapter offers learning aids and collaborative learning worksheets. The first skeleton one-hour exam covers Chapters 1 through 4 and part of Chapter 5 (through nucleosomes). The second one-hour exam covers the end of Chapter 5, Chapters 6 through 9 (through "wobble phenomenon"). The third one-hour exam covers the second half of Chapters 9 through the first half of Chapter13. The final skeleton exam places emphasis on the second half of Chapter 13 through 16 and includes comprehensive review of other chapters! Exams include essay questions, diagramming and graphing problems, and other exercises.
