Chapter 15: Genes and the Genetic Basis of Metabolism and Development

Codon Information
There is a web site called "DNA Learning Center", with a variety of links to many sites as well as information that Dolan DNA Learning Center and Cold Springs Harbor Labs present. Explore this site to see many of the ways that DNA research is being carried out and how it affects our lives. Be sure to follow some of the links (see "LINKS" on the homepage).

Visit the DNA Learning Center web site
KDRI Database
There is a web site called "Codon Table", with a table of codons and the nucleotide bases that they code for, similar to Table 15.2 in your textbook. This page is operated by the "Kazusa DNA Research Institute" in Japan. Once on their homepage, you might want to click on the "KDRI Database" button, then on the "The Kazusa Arabidopsis thaliana Genome Project" button, this will give you some maps of a Arabidopsis chromosomes that might be somewhat advanced, but which you might enjoy seeing and which will initiate you into this kind of data presentation.

Molecular Genetics
Visit the Department of Energy site, where the "Primer on Molecular Genetics" has information and illustrations that might enhance your understanding of molecular genetics.

The Genetic Basis of Flowering
Molecular techniques are permitting us to analyze how genes control plant development. Visit the "The Yanofsky Lab" homepage for a description on research of the genetic basis of flowering.
